Goa was liberated on the 19th December, 1961 from the Portuguese rule.  The Portuguese Empire ruled over Goa for more than 451 years. Though the whole of India had attained Freedom on 15th August, 1947 from the British Rule, Goa was still under the Portuguese rule.

The National flag was unfurled at the Bal Bhavan premises by Shri. Santosh Amonkar, Director, Bal Bhavan – Goa and then he addressed the gathering.  A total of 450 member children of Bal Bhavan Kendras & Bal Bhavan Panaji then presented a Goan Folk dance “MORULO” (Peacock Dance) at a State Level Liberation Day Programme organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt. of Goa.  This dance was choreographed by Shri. Shivanand Sawant, an instructor of the Bal Bhavan Kendra Amona/Navelim.
