Bal Bhavan is the brainchild of India’s first popular Prime Minister Late Pandit (Chacha) Jawaharlal Nehru. Chacha Nehru’s ideas behind launching this movement was to provide purposeful and meaningful outlet to children’s creative and artistic skills inborn in them. The National Bal Bhavan movement in India was started in 1956 in New Delhi and was later steered by Prime Minster late Smt. Indira Gandhi. The Bal Bhavan movement has completed almost sixty three years and is active in all the states & union territories of India.”

Bal Bhavan, an Institution for Children’s Movement was launched in Goa at Lyceum Complex, Altinho, Panaji on 26th January, 1986 with help and guidance of Late Smt. MekhlaJha, the then Chairperson of National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi by establishing an Autonomous Body fully patronized by Govt. of Goa on the parallel lines of National Bal Bhavan with the same aims and objectives.”

On 14th February, 1996, the Former Prime Minister of India, late Shri. Narasimha Rao, inaugurated the prestigious new Bal Bhavan Complex at Campal, Panaji
The foundation stone of Annexe Building was laid in the year 2006 by Hon’ble President of India, Shri. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and the building was inaugurated on 10th March, 2008.
Bal Bhavan is open to all the children in the age group of 5 – 16 years.

The aim of Bal Bhavan is to reach out not only to the urban areas but also to the rural sector through various creative and performing activities

To develop the latent talents in children through creativity and play.

To expose the children to various activities in the field of Creative Art Performing Art and to supplement the school system by providing children with an environment conducive to creative thinking activity.
